2022.01.24 17:40 karaflodaimonas69 Why did you lie about everything?
I came here under false pretenses. I was basically dragged here by my parent (I'm 19 and autistic). You lied about my autism ( I have the type that cannot be cured because of some complications (not that it ever would, but now even more), your guns and how easy is to "acquire" them; and the 'death capsule' too. Either send me back to my shithole and let me die in there in the same mental state or fucking kill me already. Of course you won't, because of "humanitarianism". You think I enjoy being a human, like you? The moment the aliens, the "evil Russians" (no, I'm not a fucktard Russian) or any globalist threat attacks you, I'm gonna join them.

2022.01.24 17:40 mesropmashtots Question about Saddie's ex-husband from 4th episode
She said "He put his hand over my mouth and he got on top of me. When he was done, he said..." What did he do on top of her? What does that actually mean? I'm sorry, English is not my native language. As I understand "on top of me" means on her head, but what did he actually do? Thanks in advance.

2022.01.24 17:40 irrational_design The five levels of hype
I was reading an article (https://johannesklingebiel.de/2022/01/12/hype-as-a-scale.html) on the five levels of hype and thinking about how it applies to board games. Here is the gist of the article (with "technology" replaced with "board game").
Level 1: Marketing Claims
This is your standard marketing speak. They‘re focused on what an existing board game can do for you almost immediately. Though exaggerated, they‘re still grounded in reality.
Marketing claims work on an immediate time scale, meaning whatever they promise can be realized almost instantly. The board game already exists.
Level 2: Exaggerated Claims
Here the effects and impact of an existing board game are greatly exaggerated and oversold but still informed by its real capabilities. The focus lies on the returns to come by buying now.
These claims oversell the present capabilities of a board game, often skirting the line to fraud.
Level 3: Utopian Futures
The board game is the key to a utopian future or the avoidance of a dystopic one. Claims are solely focused on the “potential” of the board game, less its benefits in the present.
Here the focus of the hype is solely on the future, though the time-scale is still concrete, promising the board game will arrive at a fixed time from now.
Level 4: Magical Thinking
The board game has left grounded reality and takes on magical properties. The problems it is expected to solve simply by existing are growing in number and scale while criticism gets ignored as minor hurdles, to be overcome soon.
With magical thinking concrete predictions are becoming less and less important, though the development might still be expected at a fixed date.
Level 5: Othering
The board game has become a group identity for its boosters. Claims are exclusively utopian, and critics are painted as defenders of the old, to be left behind.
This is the most aggressive and annoying form of hype. Notably, the time of arrival is less important at this level, simply that the board game will arrive at some point in the future.
I don't want to mention any games in particular, but I've seen Level 5 Othering hype for certain games where the games are defended aggressively and any criticism is a problem with the criticizers and not the game itself.
What do you think about these categories of hype? Are they a useful taxonomy for thinking about hype as it relates to board games?

2022.01.24 17:40 throw-away097059 The company I work for screwed over my coworker while she was on maternity leave.
I try to keep this sort of stuff off the internet, but after a few months of thinking about this situation, it really bothers me.
One of my co-workers (34F) went on a 8-week maternity leave back in May. It’s her third (and final) kid so she wanted to take the entire summer off to spend with her family. Since my job doesn’t offer paid maternity leave and her salary position only gives her 6 weeks PTO, she spaced out all 240 hours of her PTO to cover the full two months (taking a little less money each paycheck, rather than going two full weeks without pay, if that makes sense). She got this approved by HR via email.
She came back from maternity leave in late July, confused as to why she didn’t get paid her last two weeks. Come to find out, they changed the policy midway through her leave saying that you can’t “stagger PTO hours”, and she went two full weeks unpaid. HR basically told her “this is the new policy, there’s nothing we can do about it.” My coworker was mostly upset that they never told her about the change.
Everyone in our department was pretty upset about this, but sometimes I feel like I’m going crazy. Upper management is always doing these really subtle shitty things and I always end up feeling gaslit when I express that I’m upset.

2022.01.24 17:40 TheVerifiedPost Realized a lot of you have never actually attended lectures
Usually goes something like this:
You slink into the back row a few minutes late because you had to get another coffee after your previous lecture. A few people notice with vacant glances, but the lecture is otherwise uninterrupted. You begin reaching for your notebooks until you consider that you missed the last lecture anyway; you'll just read take notes from the textbook tonight (lol). Deciding to settle in, you adjust your seating and burn your tongue on your coffee. The professor is 10 minutes into his 50 minute lecture. Shortly thereafter, you are distracted by someone's whispering and begin thinking about how whispering is so much more jarring than if someone was just speaking over the professor. Finally, after rolling your eyes at the person looking at weeb shit on their laptop a few rows ahead of you, and somehow again burning your mouth on your coffee despite it being 30 minutes after buying it, you dose off, missing the rest of the lecture, as God intended. Waking up, you attempt to shuffle out of hall against the opposing sea of first years, eager to take your seat (I am realizing this phenomenon will now include 2nd and some 3rd years). Putting your headphones in and playing This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody) by the Taking Heads, you burn your glove lighting a cigarette. You try to decide between a slice of Pizza Pizza or just skipping lunch again (you feel terrible and have no appetite arising from the concoction of stimulants coursing through your veins.) You unsuccessfully pretend not to notice that weird guy from your residence back in first year. "Hey, anon, are you taking any PMATH courses??? Did you watch the new AoT???" It's good to be back...
That is to say, you shouldn't be worried that attending lectures is some grandiose event, worthy of fretting over the transition. Unless, of course, you're worried about the transition to commuting from the GTA (imagine being from the GTA lol), the transition to not cheating on assessments (lmao), and/or the transition to having to see irl 3D girls (this one I empathize with).
